On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, the Ivorian Center for Economic and Social Research (CIRES) held the official launch ceremony for the distribution of TIKA improved stoves at the Ferkessédougou Regional Council. This activity is part of the project titled “Use of the TIKA Improved Stove to Reduce the Domestic Workload of Women in Rural Ivory Coast,” implemented by CIRES and funded by Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC) as part of the Scaling Care Innovations in Africa partnership.
The ceremony was attended by the Director of CIRES, Dr. DIARRA Ibrahim; representatives of the Minister-President of the Tchologo Regional Council, Mr. Téné Brahima Ouattara; the Secretary General of the Ferkessédougou Regional Prefecture; and the sub-prefects of the beneficiary localities.
In total, 500 improved stoves were distributed in the localities of Ferkessédougou, Sikolo, and Kaouara.
Beyond a simple distribution, this project aims for structural change. It serves as a lever for women’s economic empowerment, an initiative to protect the environment, and a significant contribution to reducing gender inequalities, particularly regarding unpaid care work.
